Letterista Style Lettering (6-Hour)

Date: Saturday, June 2Time: 9:00am-4:00pm Technique: Collage & Assemblage Instructor: Lisa Engelbrecht Price: $149.00 Materials Fee: $10.00
What does it mean to write in Letterista style? Well, it's a sweet mash up of traditional calligraphy gone wild—modern and funky inventions and innovations on old styles of lettering! I've coined the term "Letterista" to describe my take on rebellious calligraphy. What will happen when we open up to modifications of several styles of lettering ? Let's organically explore all these options together. Rebellious and chaotic, spilling our brilliant and innermost thoughts on the page, always a lot of fun! Explorers, letterers, and artists wanted!

Thoroughly Modern Script Writing (3-Hour)

Date: Saturday, June 2Time: 6:00pm-9:00pm Technique: Collage & Assemblage Instructor: Lisa Engelbrecht Price: $85.00 Materials Fee: $10.00
This course introduces the pointed pen nib and its lettering variations—from formal copperplate style (wedding invitation writing) and exciting flourishes to a modern, loose, casual style. Participants will create an outline of these script letters by examining historical Zanerian styles. Then the students will fill, outline, and shadow with traditional and current cutting edge tools creating a beautiful style of lettering that's great for creating titles for journal pages and artwork.

Shimmer!-Gold Foil and Fabric Necklace and Bling Techniques (3-Hour)

Date: Sunday, June 3Time: 9:00am-12noon Technique: Mixed Media Stitch Instructor: Lisa EngelbrechtPrice: $85.00 Materials Fee: $10.00This workshop will take place in a classroom with Bernina sewing machines available for shared use.Join multimedia artist Lisa Engelbrecht, author of Modern Calligraphy and Hand Lettering, for a very special class. Lisa will guide you with assorted writing instruments to explore and discover experimental lettering and mark-making. The letters and marks will be incorporated onto canvas, and combined with exciting mixed-media techniques to add special shimmer and sparkle by creating metallic hearts with duo adhesives, foils, double-stick tape, and metallic pens. Students will learn how to create a miniature mixed-media art quilt and a mixed-media pendant necklace on fabric.

IT'S MY TURN FOR THE BLOG HOP!

SCRIPT LETTERING, TATTOO STYLE!

My friend Julia from Sakura has turned me on to these new calligraphy pens -made with the same ink as Pigma Microns-so they are permanent and lightfast and they come in 3 sizes and 4 colors ( you can see the color in the above photo) -sweet! I demonstrated them at the Craft and Hobby Association show and while there she took a video of my writing the word Script out.

Basically I wrote out the word script in my handwriting-nothing fancy.  I double stroked the letters, and in that opening starting about halfway down I added some horizontal lines inside the letters, Then I added a little wing on the sides of the letters and then filled them with color!

I used the new Koi coloring brushes from Sakura-they come in loads of colors! ( Markers or gel pens would work too!) I scored a big ol box of every color-so cool. They are super blendable and really bright. I started with pink on the tops of the letters and then used the yellow below and combined the two colors to make orange! Check out your local art store to find these-they are pretty new -so ask your store to order them!

You can buy the new Pigma Calligraphers at Paper and Ink Arts, and also at John Neal Books! you will love them!

Here's the blog premiere of my script writing!

LETTERISTA SCRIPT IN THE OC!

Lisa will be teaching Letterista Script to Local Letter Artists beginning this Tuesday! You can be a total beginner to take this class near South Coast Plaza. Sponsored by the Orange County Society for Calligraphy. Here's the scoop! Lisa Engelbrecht will be giving an Extended Studies Workshop on her Letterista Script on April 24, May 1 and May 8, 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Barbara Close's Studio, 3851 Bear Street, Suite B, Santa Ana. The cost is $70 per student. Contact Linda Mirth at lrmirth@socal.rr.com to register for the class. This class is going to be so much fun. It is so simple to do this style and, really, anyone can do it. I love script alphabets and came up with this style while waiting for my notoriously late doctor, having only a notebook and a ball point pen. I will introduce you to Copperplate-style outlines using Micron pens and then build up the strokes to allow for decorations and variations inside the letters later. This is similar to a tattoo style of lettering, where the tattoo needle just makes a mono line. The second week we will work on refinements of the letters and flourishes. Week 3 will be a mix of color and glitter fillings, special Zentangle-inspired patterning and jazzy writing on black paper. You won't want to miss this super relaxed class! Welcome to summer and fun letters!

BIG 5K is this Saturday!-Thanks for your support!!

Yes SOON I will be a trottin-for a cause!A big shout out to everyone who has supported me and the LA Big 5K! My heartfelt thanks to each of you.
My personal fundraising goal was $100 and to date, I’ve raised nearly $800!! I’m getting close to $1000-to my shock and delight! and with your help, I will make it there!
Today, there are no cures and few effective treatments for carcinoid and related neuroendocrine cancers and the Caring for Carcinoid Foundation is committed to changing this reality. As someone fighting this rare cancer, I am committed to doing my part to make a difference.
The LA Big 5K is just 5days(!) away so please support carcinoid and neuroendocrine cancer research by making a donation today.
Here's the link to my fundraising page: http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/lisaengelbrecht/la-marathon-and-5k I will be writing all my donors names on my Tshirt-pictures to follow!
Oh and my daughter Kristin will be traveling down from Seattle to run and raise funds too! heres her link http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/kristinengelbrecht-bleem/la-marathon-and-5k

Runnin' for Carcinoid Cancer Research!

TO MY FAVORITE PEEPS!
Yes I am running-well really trotting now-I've done a few 5Ks and now Im going to run for a purpose! Please in no way feel obligated-I love ya anyways but if you'd like to donate I'll write your name on my running shirt PLUS 100% of every dollar you donate goes straight to research for the cure to my rare cancer. Right now Im slated to go on a research trial using a cocktail of two drugs-they are really working hard!

On March 17, I will be running in the LA Big 5K at Dodger Stadium as a member of Team Caring for Carcinoid.
The Caring for Carcinoid Foundation (CFCF) is committed to funding research in pursuit of cures for carcinoid and related neuroendocrine cancers, which is what I am currently battling. Since these are rare cancers, they receive no federal funding for research. This is why raising money for CFCF is so important. Thanks to the generosity of their Board of Directors and corporate sponsors, 100% of the money raised by Team CFCF in the LA Big 5K will support neuroendocrine cancer research at some of the most top institutions in the country, including Cedars Sinai, Stanford, Johns Hopkins, the University of Pennsylvania, and others.
I know there is no shortage of worthy causes and I'd be most grateful for your support in the fight to wipe carcinoid and related neuroendocrine cancers off the map! I’ve set a goal of raising $100 and I've already blown that number out of the water. But I raise more with your support so please make a gift today.
Donating online is fast and is super easy. Just click on this link and follow the directions:http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/lisaengelbrecht/la-marathon-and-5k
Please join me in supporting research that will one day deliver a cure.( yep-tax deductible!)
With love and appreciation for your support,
Lisa
