LETTERISTA SCRIPT IN THE OC!

Lisa will be teaching Letterista Script to Local Letter Artists beginning this Tuesday! You can be a total beginner to take this class near South Coast Plaza. Sponsored by the Orange County Society for Calligraphy. Here's the scoop! Lisa Engelbrecht will be giving an Extended Studies Workshop on her Letterista Script on April 24, May 1 and May 8, 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Barbara Close's Studio, 3851 Bear Street, Suite B, Santa Ana. The cost is $70 per student. Contact Linda Mirth at lrmirth@socal.rr.com to register for the class. This class is going to be so much fun. It is so simple to do this style and, really, anyone can do it. I love script alphabets and came up with this style while waiting for my notoriously late doctor, having only a notebook and a ball point pen. I will introduce you to Copperplate-style outlines using Micron pens and then build up the strokes to allow for decorations and variations inside the letters later. This is similar to a tattoo style of lettering, where the tattoo needle just makes a mono line. The second week we will work on refinements of the letters and flourishes. Week 3 will be a mix of color and glitter fillings, special Zentangle-inspired patterning and jazzy writing on black paper. You won't want to miss this super relaxed class! CAROLINA LETTER ARTS SOCIETY Workshop!

Oh what a wonderful weekend! I was invited to teach in North Carolina in Raleigh for the CLAS AGM. 25 wonderful new friends-and please check out their work here on my Flickr! go to www.flickr.com/photos/25736261@N00 ( Scroll past my lawn shots-Im putting a sustainable lawn and I will ahve the blog about that up Soon!) It was Letterista style and writing on fabric-making a book. I was housed in a beeautiful hotel and felt like a queen. Special big shout out to my host Liz Simmonds for organizing and wrangling me. On our desks were a cigar box full of calligraphic goodies prepared by Stephanie and Martha. ( see above) There are also pics of the exhibit of CLAS at the Cary Arts Center which was an old school house they have converted to an amazing space. Thank you so much for inviting me to your beautiful state! ( Thanks too for the hailstorm! It was amazing too!)

WE DID IT!

Yes we did-we ran even though it was pouring and freezing we ran-my brave daughter by my side. We raised almost $1800 for Carcinoid cancer research-THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH! My personal fundraising goal was $100 and to date, I’ve raised nearly $800!! I’m getting close to $1000-to my shock and delight! and with your help, I will make it there!

Runnin' for Carcinoid Cancer Research!

TO MY FAVORITE PEEPS!
Yes I am running-well really trotting now-I've done a few 5Ks and now Im going to run for a purpose! Please in no way feel obligated-I love ya anyways but if you'd like to donate I'll write your name on my running shirt PLUS 100% of every dollar you donate goes straight to research for the cure to my rare cancer. Right now Im slated to go on a research trial using a cocktail of two drugs-they are really working hard!

On March 17, I will be running in the LA Big 5K at Dodger Stadium as a member of Team Caring for Carcinoid.
The Caring for Carcinoid Foundation (CFCF) is committed to funding research in pursuit of cures for carcinoid and related neuroendocrine cancers, which is what I am currently battling. Since these are rare cancers, they receive no federal funding for research. This is why raising money for CFCF is so important. Thanks to the generosity of their Board of Directors and corporate sponsors, 100% of the money raised by Team CFCF in the LA Big 5K will support neuroendocrine cancer research at some of the most top institutions in the country, including Cedars Sinai, Stanford, Johns Hopkins, the University of Pennsylvania, and others.
I know there is no shortage of worthy causes and I'd be most grateful for your support in the fight to wipe carcinoid and related neuroendocrine cancers off the map! Craft Hobby Association Craziness!

Oh My
What a week-(it seems like a week) its been-I was demonstrating for Sakura at the CHA show in Anaheim. I was demonstrating the new Calligrapher Pen which is yummy-same ink as the Microns-and a really tiny 1.0 tip that rocks. But I saw tons of new stuff and met up with many friends! ( Traci Bautista ( her new book is out! Doodles Unleashed is a must have if you didnt pre order!) , Ruth Rae, Jenn Mason, Bernie Berlin and more!) Saw Jill Berry-go see her website at www.jillberrydesign.com-her first CHA experience-ha!
